Our growth

By recreating the conditions deep within the earth: the temperature, the pressure, and the chemical makeup, Chatham successfully grows gemstones in a laboratory over the course of a year’s time.

The end result is a lab-grown crystal possessing the same physical, optical, and chemical properties as its mined counterpart. The only difference is where they are formed: aboveground versus below the ground.

Quality control

Upon collecting the rough from inside the growth chamber, each crystal is carefully inspected, then cut into a preform—a rough shape that will later be transformed into a faceted gem.

To meet our rigorous quality standards, Chatham cuts away about 80% of the rough crystal to ensure that all our gemstones have maximum brilliance, high clarity, and rich color.

Our cutting

A team of highly trained master cutters, or lapidaries, individually hand cut each lab grown gem to enhance its natural beauty and brilliance. This stage is critical for capturing optimum light reflection. After the gemstone has been cut, it undergoes a polishing process to achieve a high level of transparency, smoothness, and luster. This step is crucial for enhancing the gem’s optical qualities.

Refined design

Next, Chatham designs a collection of fine jewelry featuring our colorful spectrum of laboratory-grown gemstones and diamonds. Hand drawn sketches set the foundation of new design concepts and inspiration. Sketches are then transposed into CAD where designs are finessed, with great attention to detail and proportion. Chatham’s elegant designs are a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary, with a distinctive flair.
