Carat

A carat is a unit by which diamonds are weighed. One carat equals 200 milligrams or 1/5 gram. Specific measurements may not accurately represent the size of a diamond. While the scale below represents typical size relationships as the weight increases, size may vary.

Cut

The cut of a diamond is what makes it come alive! When evaluating the cut of a diamond, proportion and finish are the determining factors of its fire (the rainbow of colors that flash from within), brilliance (the white light that reflects back to the eye) and scintillation (the beautiful sparkle).

Ideal

Considered the top tier cut grade, the ideal proportions display the perfect balance of fire and brilliance in a diamond.

Chatham does not cut any grade below Good.

Clarity

The Clarity Grade of a diamond refers to the microscopic internal and external characteristics of the diamond that formed during the growth process. Viewed under 10X magnification, these inclusions (internal) and blemishes (external) are classified as diamond flaws. But don’t let the word flaw scare you. It simply refers to the amount of inclusions or blemishes a stone may have. Similar to fingerprints, no two diamonds are ever identical, making your diamond unique and one-of-a-kind. Other determining factors of a clarity grade are size of inclusions, position within the diamond, type of inclusion and relief (inclusion’s color).

SI1 and SI2 (Slightly Included)

SI diamonds contain inclusions that are fairly easy for a trained gemologist to see under 10X magnification.

Color

Color grades are determined by how much natural color is visible in a diamond, or lack thereof. The industry standard normal color range goes from colorless to a light yellow or brown (not to be confused with fancy color diamonds). The highest quality diamond is one that is absolutely colorless. The most widely used form of color grading is the D to Z Scale. Look at the scale below to determine where this diamond’s color grade falls.

Lab-Grown Diamonds

So brilliant, they were once thought to be fallen stars, diamonds are the most sought-after gems on earth. Potent symbols of love, devotion, pride, wealth, and power, diamonds mean forever. Chatham lab-grown diamonds can’t be distinguished from mined diamonds except with sophisticated gemological equipment.
