In 2012, Chatham introduced the aqua colored variety of spinel, to our lab grown color menu. The goal was to capture the beauty and soothing attributes of aquamarine - a highly sought after gemstone. Since aquamarine beryl follows a complex crystal structure, it is more efficient to grow a spinel in the striking aqua blue that makes this gem so desirable.
