The Chatham Standard
Quality That Matters
Color
Diamond color grades measure the amount of natural color visible in a diamond. The standard scale ranges from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). The less color present, the higher the quality. Chatham lab-grown diamonds are available in grades D through J.
Clarity
A diamond's clarity grade measures the natural internal and external characteristics formed during growth. Viewed under 10X magnification, these inclusions and blemishes help determine clarity. Since no two diamonds are exactly alike, these features make each diamond unique. Clarity grade is based on the size, type, position, and visibility of the characteristics. Chatham lab-grown diamonds are available from I2 to Flawless.
Cut
A diamond's cut is what brings it to life. Its proportions and finish determine the fire, brilliance, and scintillation that make a diamond shine so beautifully. Chatham lab-grown diamonds range from Triple 'EX' to Ideal.
Carat
A carat is the unit used to measure a diamond's weight, with one carat equal to 200 milligrams. While carat weight affects size, dimensions can vary depending on the diamond's cut. Chatham offers lab-grown diamonds ranging from 0.25 carats to over 10 carats.
The Gemstone Profile
Key Traits and Facts
Mineral
Unlike most minerals, which are made up of multiple elements, diamonds are composed entirely of a single element: carbon.
Hardness
The word diamond comes from the Greek word adamas and Roman diamas meaning “the unconquerable.” The name is well-earned since diamond is the hardest material on earth.
Birthstone Month
The month of April is a sparkly one! Diamond is the official birthstone for those born on this month.
Color Lore
The most coveted gem in history. Uncut diamonds were worn into battle by great knights while cut diamonds have adorned the crowns of kings and queens over the centuries. A striking symbol of love, devotion, strength, power, and wealth.
